Fans of the AUN Premier League witnessed another action-packed weekend, with 12 goals scored in three games that took place at the GTB Field.
The best of the weekend’s actions was seen in match day 2 in a keenly contested game between Shalfati FC and Java FC. Having struggled in their last two matches, the pressure was on both teams to mount a challenge for SGA Cup qualification, which begins later in the season.
Shuaibu Ibrahim put hosts Shalfati FC ahead inside the opening minutes of the first half before Ibrahim Babatunde of Java equalized with a well-timed close range finish.
Sophomore Fahad Fahad grabbed his first goal of the season with a volley from inside the 18-yard box to put the home team ahead, and Shuaibu Ibrahim scored his second goal of the day 20 minutes to the end of the game to make the scores 3-1.
Elsewhere, three first-half goals from talismanic captain Aliyu Waziri of Mushish FC were enough to guarantee a win for the league leaders in their game against African Warriors, who only managed to grab a consolation goal 10 minutes to the end of the game.
The weekend ended with a less than impressive display from last season’s champions LXB FC, as Ace FC held them to a 2-2 draw.
Mohammed Lawan put hosts LXB in front, with Hassan Abba adding the second goal, but an own goal from veteran midfielder Khaleed Dahiru gave Ace a glimmer of hope before their in-form striker Kucha scored the equalizer.
LXB FC captain, Nuhu Saidu, told the CMD Website after the match, that “LXB will have to be much more compact at the back if we are to retain the title.”
