Students of the American University of Nigeria, AUN, on Friday, April 8, hosted a talent show and awards night at the campus cafeteria to celebrate outstanding students.
Themed “AUN Talent Blast”, the event was organized by the AUN’s Got Talent Club in association with the Student Government Association, SGA, as part of activities marking the SGA Week, an annual celebration of the University’s student government.
In his opening remarks, the President of AUN’s Got Talent Club, Idris Iliya, said the event was aimed at showcasing and recognizing the talents AUN students have.
“It is all about finding talent, managing talent, and bringing out the best in AUN students,” he said.
Eight students exhibited their talents either in singing, dancing, arts and crafts, or rap, but six made it to the second and final round.
The students’ performances were then judged by a panel of four, consisting of AUN Assistant Vice President, Human Resources & Planning, Mr. Nourah Bamalli, Communications and Multimedia Design, CMD, instructor, Dr. Presly Obukoadata, Assistant Director of Residence Life, Mrs. Grace Ayorinde, and a Resident Director, Christiana Itinam.
Ritnen Gomwalk, who mesmerized the audience with her vocal performance of Alicia Keys’ “No One” emerged the first place winner of the show and went home with N50,000 cash prize.
The dance group, “Crew Blaque”, came second and was given N25,000, while Chinenye Jewe, who regaled the crowd with her moving and expert performance of a monologue, finished third, and received N15,000.
The organizers of the show also used the event to recognize deserving students with a variety of awards in male and female categories.
Among the awards given out were Fashion Designer of the Year, Most Entrepreneurial Student of the Year, Most Talented Student of the Year, Founder’s Award, and Most Fashionable Student of the Year.
Other awards were Runway Queen of the Year, Couple of the Year, Make-up Artist of the Year, Photographer of the Year, Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Leadership Award, and Artist of the Year, among others.
