The American University of Nigeria, AUN, Premier League soccer team Mushish Football Club on Sunday, April 24, set a new league record as the first-ever side to go the entire season without losing a game.
The Spring 2016 AUNPL champions amassed a total of 23 points at the end of ten weeks, averaging over two goals a game, to cap what was an excellent season for the Black Hawks.
Talismanic captain Aliyu Waziri in an interview at the end of the final game of the season had nothing but praise for his teammates.
“I want to thank you all for your hand work and sacrifices during the football semester.
“Now, it’s time to reap the fruits of our labor. We dug deep even when the odds were against us and now we can proudly beat our chests and call ourselves champions,” he said.
Waziri, like most of his teammates, is in the final semester of his studies and this makes winning the league trophy very special for the team.
“I just played my final AUN league game and I will like to say that it’s an honor to have played, trained, lost, drawn, and won games with you guys.
“It’s a rap. Good bless you guys. Stay blessed,” he said, while addressing his teammates.
Waziri is the league’s top scorer with 17 goals, and 4 assists. Mushish’s goalkeeper, Johnson Utibe Nkanga, won the Golden Glove Award for the Most Clean Sheets. He conceded only five goals in the entire season.
