The Career Office of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Adamawa State, Friday, held a workshop to prepare students for the forthcoming Career Fair in Lagos.
At the workshop, Interim Provost, Ahmad Hosseini, taught the participating students how to write excellent resumes.
“Lack of quality resume can hinder your opportunity of getting a job.You should regard resume as an advertisement of a job seeker, and remember that every organisation receives resumes daily,” said Mr. Hosseini.
“You need to remember that prospective employers quickly scan, and not read your resume. You will be hired based on the skilful writing on your resume.”
While arguing that organisations have no time to carefully read through resumes, he said: “Resume is not writing personal statements or giving background history.”
He, therefore, warned that resume should not be confused with curriculum vitae, adding that every resume must target the right audience.
Mr. Hosseini encouraged participants to include their Cummulative Gross Point Average (CGPA) on their resumes.
Earlier, the Director of Career Counselling and Placement, Grace Nwokoma, said interview questions are tricky and offered students the basic the techniques to answer them.
Mrs. Grace said, “In a case of tricky interview questions, students should focus on their strengths and weaknesses, work experience, professional skills and time management.”
