I love you” – Three words, eight letters, several interpretation(s), one true meaning.

If I had a penny for every time I heard these words, I would be a rich, a very rich woman today. Unfortunately, it always seemed to come from the wrong person, at the wrong place, and at the wrong time. Story for the gods

I always thought my love story would be one for the books. When I was younger and caught up on romance novels (like yesterday, for instance), my daydreams revolved around two scenarios.

1st scenario: We would meet one sweet day just like all great lovers met. The weather would just happen to be unusually lovely (less heat, more cool) so, everything would be perfectly in place when he eventually set his eyes on me (after some strategic events led to that moment), leaving him mesmerized. Lights, camera… MAGIC.

2nd scenario: A love that builds and buds in the slowest but most endearing way possible. At first, we’re just two people in the world chasing after our lives and trying to make a name, then, we’re friends… true friends… like the kind that stick closer than family. Then, on different occasions, we each realize the reason why we can’t work with anyone else and the reason why we’re stuck on each other. The rest, as they say, is history. Dreams, dreams, dreams…

I love you

Maybe “I’m just a hopeless romantic looking for love” like dear Meghan Trainor belted out so beautifully.

Maybe, I’m just a girl who wants to believe that there has to be more to love than falling in and out of it until it loses meaning, piling up exes like toppings on a delicious (albeit, heart attack-inducing) cup of Cold stone Ice-cream, nursing heartbreaks like they’re new-borns, and repeating the entire process subsequently.

Maybe I’m just a girl who cares to reach beyond what she’s feeling to find a reason worth trying for. No, ‘I love you’ is not reason enough. A for effort though!

I love you

I                 Why?

Where’s the reason beyond what you feel? What’s the motive behind your words? They say love knows no reason, they say it can’t be explained. But if you can’t explain why you choose to love me then, how would you explain it to me when you can’t love me anymore? Ask these questions at your own detriment… or your redemption.

LOVE         Show don’t tell

I read this somewhere that love is a feeling evoked by actions, reactions and interpretations therefore love is not real. Love is abstract, therefore, it is a lie but if the vision is shared with the right person, then it becomes a reality. Hence, it is made true.

Love is not what it used to be, it may not be what it is said to be, it’s probably not what it seems to be but it will forever remain what it is built to be. Love builds…

YOU           who, me?

It might not have come from who you expected it to, or at the moment you expected it to. Still, if someone found the courage to say those words to you, the least you can do is be nice not condescending, honest not pitiful and most of all, tolerant. (People don’t handle rejection well!)

And if you’ve been holding out for someone who’ll come into your life and help you make sense of this crazy little thing called love, then, get ready cos he will or she will come without a label or a warning.

While you’re at it, love yourself with a fierceness that will set the tone for how you should be loved.

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage” - Lao Tzu (Let that someone be you, loving yourself)
